YouTube has struck again!
Well, yes, because if you thought you could easily escape the ads on Google’s video platform on your smartphone thanks to your favorite little ad blocker, well, you’re wrong. They have decided to ruin your life if you use third-party apps like AdGuard or uBlock Origin to watch your videos without those pesky ads.
Now, if you try to slip through the cracks of the advertising net, you may end up with playback issues like the video pausing every 30 seconds to load or an error message that sends you wandering.
YouTube is said to have launched this riposte because supposedly content creators deserve to be compensated for their work. That’s true, but it’s mostly to defend their huge piece of cake. Personally, I don’t care about it a bit, but where it bothers me is that they have outright threatened to crack down on applications that don’t respect their API terms of use. I don’t see what exactly they plan to do except cut off access to the API… But I’m afraid it will go further, like blowing up the Github accounts of uBlock, Freetube, Youtube-dl, and those kinds of tools.
In short, no choice, unfortunately. If you have an ad blocker on your smartphone or tablet, expect to struggle with YouTube. All you have to do is take out a YouTube Premium subscription or go back to Dailymotion ^^.
Well, there’s still the good old method of ad blocking on a web browser. But for how long?
Come on, I’m going to bed, my eyes are crossed.
