Most Snapdragon-based laptops I’ve tested so far have been ultra-light 13- and 14-inch premium models using the highest-end versions of the processor, with premium materials and premium prices to match. But the Snapdragon X platform is also well suited for more affordable, practical everyday laptops — and this Asus model, which hit store shelves this fall, is a great example.
The Vivobook S16 offers everything most people need for web browsing and office work on a large screen, at a very reasonable price. It starts at around $650 in the US, depending on configuration. It’s available in two versions: one with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, and another with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, which costs roughly a couple hundred dollars more.
Even the base model delivers more than enough performance for everyday tasks such as browsing, streaming, email, accounting, light media editing, and office applications. You can even do some gaming, though not modern AAA titles at high settings or frame rates. The fast SSD helps keep the system feeling responsive, with quick boot and app launch times.
The laptop can often run quietly, and Asus provides different cooling modes — one prioritizing silence and another allowing the fans to ramp up for better performance. The fans do become audible at times, but never excessively loud.

Solid Build Quality
The Vivobook has a more understated design than Asus’s premium Zenbook line, but it certainly doesn’t look or feel cheap. The bottom panel and lid are made of light metal, while the keyboard area uses high-quality plastic. The result is a slim, elegant 16-inch laptop that feels well put together.
Despite the thin design, there’s a good selection of ports:

- Headphone jack
The webcam is usable but not flattering — images look a bit soft, with strong contrast and limited sharpness, as if they’re being digitally upscaled. The microphone, however, performs well, especially with AI-based noise reduction enabled.
The keyboard features adjustable backlighting and comfortable, though slightly soft, key feedback. The large touchpad is accurate and includes swipe zones along the edges for volume, brightness, and horizontal scrolling (which you can disable if you prefer).
Large Display, Modest Resolution
The 16-inch OLED display delivers rich colors close to the DCI-P3 standard, though color accuracy isn’t professional-grade. Brightness is good for indoor use, and around 300 nits is enough for working in daylight — as long as you avoid direct sunlight. There’s no HDR support, and the refresh rate is fixed at 60 Hz.
Asus notes that the display may flicker at low brightness, though I didn’t personally experience it. If you’re sensitive to that, there’s an alternative dimming mode designed to reduce flicker, but it’s somewhat hidden in the settings and slightly affects image quality.
The biggest downside of the screen is its resolution. Full HD (1920 × 1080) is fairly low for a 16-inch panel, making text appear a bit pixelated at times and limiting workspace in certain applications.
Long Battery Life
With a large 70 Wh battery, the Vivobook S16 lasts longer than expected for a 16-inch laptop. I measured between 8 and 14 hours of mixed, active use at normal brightness, and up to a full day with light usage and aggressive power saving.
The built-in light sensor for automatic brightness adjustment and presence detection (which turns off the screen when you walk away) help extend battery life even further.
As a Snapdragon laptop, it supports the full set of Microsoft Copilot+ features, including the new Recall feature (currently in beta). This requires biometric login, which the Vivobook provides via infrared facial recognition. You also get Asus’s own AI tools like StoryCube, but there’s no noticeable bloatware.

The Asus Vivobook S16 S3607QA is a well-balanced, affordable 16-inch laptop with excellent battery life, quiet operation, and enough performance for everyday productivity. Its main compromises are the low screen resolution and average webcam, but for the price, it’s a very attractive option for students, remote workers, and anyone who wants a large screen without paying premium-ultrabook prices.
