Downloading YouTube videos without stumbling across a shady website riddled with dubious ads, misleading buttons, or scripts that raise serious privacy concerns has become an extreme sport. Thankfully, some tools are emerging to bring order back to this chaotic landscape. We recently highlighted Cobalt.tools, an open-source, ad-free, effective, and free service – the perfect combination. However, its core functionality is currently on hold, likely due to pressure from YouTube. But while some services are facing roadblocks, others are forging ahead. Enter Cliply, a Windows application (with macOS and Linux versions in development) that allows you to download YouTube videos or just the audio with unparalleled precision, even selecting specific time ranges. All within a modern interface… but with some limitations in its free version.

Cliply: Effortlessly Download YouTube Videos or Audio Extracts
Once the application is installed, Cliply welcomes you with a clean, advertisement-free interface, devoid of unnecessary windows. Everything is centered around a single field: the one where you paste the link to the YouTube video you wish to download.
As soon as the link is pasted, the application displays a preview of the video on the left: title, author, duration, and even an integrated player for direct viewing. On the right, you’ll find the core functionality, with two primary options:
- Video Download: To download the complete video or a portion thereof.
- Audio Only: If you prefer to extract just the soundtrack.

In both cases, you can define a custom time range. For example, extract a precise sequence from a tutorial or just the chorus of a song, without having to manually cut the file after downloading. And of course, you can also choose the quality: 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p for video, or high or low quality audio.
Once you’ve configured your settings, simply click the corresponding button: “Download Video” or “Download Audio.” That’s it. And it works remarkably well.
A Limited Free Version… But Sufficient for Occasional Use
By default, Cliply offers a free version that allows you to download up to 5 videos or extracts per day. This quota resets daily, which is more than enough if you occasionally use the app to save a clip or extract an audio snippet.
But if you have more demanding needs, such as batch downloads, entire playlists, automation via API, or simply more flexibility, Cliply offers two Pro plans:
- $25 per year: For unlimited downloads on two devices.
- $35 one-time payment: With the same benefits, valid for life on three devices.
In both cases, you get:
- Download up to 8K resolution.
- Playlist support.
- Access to the API for advanced users.
- Priority support.
Nothing is mandatory, of course, but if you use Cliply regularly, the Pro plan remains very affordable compared to other solutions that are often more complex… or more opaque.
A Personal Project That’s Gaining Momentum
Cliply is the initiative of a 20-year-old developer, Devansh, who was simply tired of the dubious websites filled with pop-ups. In a quiet weekend, he coded his own solution: a fast, clean, ad-free, and no-frills tool. His goal was not to compete with other services, but simply to create something simple… for himself. But word-of-mouth did the rest.
Since then, users have flocked to the app, the servers are humming, and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. Cliply has become a real favorite for many in just a few days. As a result, Devansh has announced that he will open source the code, work on macOS and Linux versions, and add other features such as support for new platforms or clip editing.
