Exactograph is Apple’s modern take on the regulator clock, designed to separate hours, minutes, and seconds for highly precise timekeeping. Introduced with watchOS 26, it joins Flow, Waypoint, and other new faces in the Apple Watch Face Gallery. Unlike Ultra-exclusive faces (Waypoint) or Hermès-only designs, Exactograph is widely available to supported Apple Watch models.

Requirements and Compatibility
To use Exactograph, ensure both devices are updated:
- iPhone: iOS 26 or later (iPhone 11 or newer).
- Apple Watch: watchOS 26 or later (Series 6+, SE 2nd gen+, or any Ultra model).
💡 Note: Waypoint is Ultra-only, and Hermès Faubourg Party is exclusive to Hermès models. Exactograph and Flow are supported across eligible non-Ultra watches.
Update Before Adding Exactograph
Update iPhone → Settings > General > Software Update → install iOS 26.
Update Apple Watch → on-watch (Settings > General > Software Update) or via iPhone Watch app → ensure the watch is charging with at least 50% battery.

Refresh Watch app → force-quit and reopen the Watch app on iPhone so the Face Gallery updates instantly.
Add the Exactograph Watch Face
On iPhone, open Watch app → Face Gallery.

Tap New Watch Faces → select Exactograph → choose style & color → tap Add.

Apply it via My Watch > My Faces > Set as Current, or long-press the watch face on your Apple Watch and swipe to Exactograph.

Customize Exactograph: Styles, Colors, and Complications
Exactograph comes with flexible options for both design and functionality.
1. Pick a Style
- Lines style: Displays hours, minutes, and seconds on separate tracks for clarity.
- Rings style: Uses circular sub-dials, closer to a traditional chronograph.

2. Adjust Colors & Backgrounds
- Choose high-contrast colors for better legibility.
- Enable or disable background fills depending on whether you want a clean, data-first layout or visual separation.

3. Add Complications (Rings Style)
Supports up to four corner complications. Suggested setups:
- Workday: Next Calendar Event, Reminders, Weather, Battery.
- Travel: World Clock (destination), Weather, Compass, Activity Rings.
- Training: Heart Rate, Workout, Timer, Activity Rings.

4. Interactive Precision
Tap minutes or seconds for an expanded scale view—ideal for exact second alignment during timing tasks.
Improve Legibility and Always-On Seconds
With watchOS 26, more than 20 watch faces now keep a visible ticking seconds hand without wrist-raise.
- Enable Always-On display.
- Choose a bold seconds color for easier readability at a glance.
Troubleshooting: When Exactograph Is Missing
If Exactograph doesn’t appear or won’t apply:
Method 1 — Update Both Devices
- Confirm iPhone runs iOS 26 and Watch runs watchOS 26.
- Force-quit and reopen the Watch app.
- Restart both devices to refresh caches.
Method 2 — Check Model Compatibility
- Series 6+, SE 2nd gen+, Ultra models only.
- Remember, Waypoint is Ultra-only.
Method 3 — Add from the Watch
- Long-press current face → swipe to end → tap New → scroll to Exactograph.
Method 4 — Re-pair Watch
- Back up and unpair the Watch via the iPhone Watch app.
- Re-pair and restore backup → Exactograph should now appear in Face Gallery.
Notes and Limitations
- Exactograph = time-first layout. Pick lines style for clean precision or rings style for more data via complications.
- Waypoint is Ultra-only, Hermès Faubourg Party is Hermès-exclusive.
- Always keep iOS and watchOS updated to get bug fixes and new face options.
Maintenance Tips
- Revisit complication setup seasonally—needs often change with work, travel, or fitness goals.
- Keep Always-On enabled and pick high-contrast seconds colors for maximum readability.
- If the face disappears, re-sync your devices or check for software updates.
✅ With the right combination of style, complications, and color, Exactograph transforms your Apple Watch into a precision timepiece while still surfacing the essentials you rely on daily.
