Google My Business (now called Google Business Profile) has been a game-changer for small businesses and organizations since its launch in 2014. With just a few clicks, you can put your brand on the map—literally—so customers can find you through Google Search and Google Maps.

But what happens if you close your business, rebrand, or simply no longer want that listing active? An outdated or duplicate profile can confuse customers and even harm your credibility. That’s why it’s important to remove or update business listings you no longer manage.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the exact steps to remove a business from Google My Business so your online presence stays clean, professional, and relevant.

Why You Might Need to Remove a Google Business Listing

There are several valid reasons for removing a business from your Google profile:

  • You’ve closed or sold the business.
  • You’ve moved locations and don’t want duplicate listings.
  • You’ve rebranded under a new name.
  • You created a listing by mistake and want to start fresh.

No matter the reason, the process is straightforward. Let’s dive in.

How to Remove a Business from Google My Business Listings

Open your Google Account and click on the Google apps icon that appears beside your profile picture. If you are already logged into your Gmail account, you can use the same page to navigate to Google My Listing and select the “My Business” Option.

If you have just one business listed against your account, that business page would open.

If you want to see all the businesses you own on Google My Business, you can scroll down and from the left panel you can click on “Businesses”.
