The Photo Editor software is part of the Icecream suite. It is a 100% free application designed specifically for Windows users. Always on the lookout for software that does not hide a bunch of paid features or subscriptions, we checked that everything was accessible without using the credit card. And we reassure you: it is!
Of course, this is not enough to make a good photo editor. We need to see what Icecream Photo Editor can offer in practice. We have therefore prepared this review for you.
Icecream Photo Editor: quick installation and user-friendly interface
Some photo editing software can be particularly difficult to approach. Not so with Icecream Photo Editor. First, because a few clicks are enough to install it. Then, because the interface is very accessible.
As soon as you open the program, the following options are available:
- Search for images (on your computer)
- Create a new image
- Gallery (this involves editing illustrations already processed in the software)
The second option is a bit… surprising. If you click on it, the menu image can be edited! Namely:
We preferred to use “Search for images” to test the tools from one of our files. And the whole thing is very intuitive. Here’s why.

Several editing tools for a satisfactory result
Are you a professional graphic designer? Obviously, there is not much to satisfy you in this Photo Editor. On the other hand, for occasional use, a “casual” approach as they say in English, the formula is complete.
The must-haves for photo editing, such as adding text and shape, the “cut” function, changing contrast, or resizing… are just a click away. Here’s a quick summary of Icecream Photo Editor’s features:
- Draw: Allows you to add hand-drawn drawings or brush strokes to photos.
- Add text: Insert text with different fonts, sizes, and colors to customize your images.
- Shapes: Add various geometric shapes to highlight certain areas or create unique designs.
- Stickers: Integrate fun and decorative stickers to make your photos more attractive.
- Enhance: Optimize the quality of your images by adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, and other settings.
- Blur: Apply a blur effect to certain parts of the image or the whole for an artistic rendering.
- Create photo collages: Combine multiple images into a single collage to present your memories in a creative way.
- Flip: Reverse your images horizontally or vertically to create interesting mirror effects.
- Rotate: Rotate your photos at different angles to get the perfect orientation.
- Filters and effects: Apply various filters and effects to enhance the aesthetic rendering of your photos.
- Resizing: Adjust the size of your images according to your needs while maintaining their quality.
- Cropping: Crop your photos to remove unwanted parts or to highlight a specific element.

The icons look similar to those found in Paint, GIMP, or built-in editors on social networks. So you shouldn’t have any trouble understanding the role of each button.
As for the output format, it’s pretty simple: it corresponds to the input format. There are also conversion options, at least in 3 file types: PNG, JPG, and BMP.
Although we are geeks in the team, it still seemed to us that a user with limited computer skills could easily use Icecream Photo Editor without feeling lost.
However, there is still a shadow to clear up…

A strangely low rating… for a software that performs well
Something intrigued us when preparing this review. Usually, on an editor’s official pages, the programs they offer themselves rarely get less than four out of five stars. This even raises questions about the reliability of the displayed score.
However, in this case – at least at the time the article was written – the rating is 1.6/5. Either it’s sabotage or we missed something. Because honestly, for freeware, it’s comprehensive and efficient enough. Of course, it’s far from GIMP in terms of possibilities. It’s a “humble” software, as they sometimes say.
Nevertheless, there doesn’t seem to be any scam or hidden fees. This average rating seems a bit harsh. This is usually the rating that internet users give to smoke screens – the smartphone games that promise a fortune but are simply reservoirs for ads, for example.
The best way to get to the bottom of this is to try it out for yourself, right? If your PC runs Windows, note that all versions are supported from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and 11! Icecream Photo Editor provides simple access to filters, stickers, and other fun gadgets that bring illustrations to life with colors.
If you notice any unacceptable defects that explain the poor star rating of this free photo editing software, please let us know in the comments. This may help us solve the mystery!
