If you work actively and productively on your mobile or tablet, you might need a good real keyboard for them. Who has the patience to type longer texts with their thumbs on a screen keyboard? Not me, at least. It’s much nicer to have a Bluetooth keyboard paired, prop up the tablet somewhere, and thus turn it into a minimal little laptop.
Some have smart cases and supports for this, sometimes with built-in keyboards. But not all, and the quality can vary. We know Logitech can deliver quality in keyboards. They make some of the best and most popular ones on the market. The new Keys To Go 2 is their thinnest, lightest, and most portable yet.
Measuring two and a half decimeters wide and a little over a decimeter high, it fits a full qwerty keyboard without being unnecessarily cramped for typing. Marginal buttons, like a row of function keys at the top, and shift, tab, and enter on the sides, are extra small, which might take some getting used to.
Highest Build Quality
But the keys for text input are only marginally smaller than a full-sized desktop keyboard. Except for Å, Ä, and Ö, which in the Nordic design are limited to half-width. Individual keys are top-notch, with a clear click mechanism despite the thin design and low key travel, and everything is encased in a stable aluminum chassis.
It feels professional and luxurious to use, with its rattle-free, dampened keys and foldable lid with magnetic closure. But sure, a couple of extra centimeters in size wouldn’t hurt to fit more large keys. It’s a trade-off between compact design and user-friendliness that I wish didn’t have to be made.
You connect via Bluetooth, and you can have three devices paired simultaneously, with three buttons at the top allowing you to quickly switch which device the keyboard controls. I had no problem finding and connecting with any of my test devices, from a desktop PC to an iPad.
Keys To Go 2 is powered by two flat button batteries located behind a cover that requires a special screwdriver to access. The batteries are said to last for three years if you work on it two hours a day. So it’s not an immediate concern. It’s longer than the warranty you get on it.
Works with Everything
Just like most Logitech keyboards, it is compatible with most systems, from Windows and Mac to Android and iOS. Special keys work the same for these, and it has slightly messy designed buttons for the start menu, function, and alt keys to fit what they are called in the different systems. But I quickly learned what is what and then didn’t think about it anymore.
Even iPadOS and ChromeOS are represented on the list of compatible systems, but I didn’t have the opportunity to test those. But I assume all keys are mapped to corresponding functions. I also tested pairing with a Linux computer. That worked too, except for a couple of special functions like the emoji button and media controls.
For Windows and macOS, there is a control program, Logi Options+, that lets you monitor battery levels, change the function of special keys (only on that computer, not universally), and assign these to selected programs on the computer. There are also Smart Actions, which can combine system functions like launching grouped apps at specific times or shortcuts.
Could Benefit from Focusing
It feels a bit like Logitech is being too ambitious here. For the desktop at home, you might as well get a larger keyboard, and the laptop already has its own. If it hasn’t broken or is too bad, then Keys To Go 2 is, of course, an option. But the most important thing is the keyboard’s usability in a mobile situation, which means for a tablet or phone.
Then it’s perfectly fine, but a dedicated iOS or Android keyboard would have been more practical. And built-in support for your mobile or tablet would have been appreciated. Now you have to figure out how to set it up on the table yourself. Logitech only solves the text input.
