Is your phone’s battery almost dead, and you don’t have time for a full recharge as usual? Use this very simple technique for a much quicker charge.
Like all mobile devices that run on batteries, smartphones need to be regularly recharged. Of course, how often you need to charge depends on how you use your phone and the battery capacity. The same goes for charging time, which also depends on the size of the battery and the charger you use. With a fast charger and a compatible phone, 30 or 40 minutes may be enough. But not everyone has this kind of setup, and more often than not, a full charge can take two hours or more.
There are times when you simply don’t have the luxury of waiting for a standard charge. This can happen, for instance, if you forget to plug in your phone before going to bed and wake up to a nearly dead battery. In such situations, it’s useful to apply a few simple tricks to speed up the process and save some precious time.
First of all, if you need to remain reachable for calls and texts during charging, close all open applications on your smartphone and turn off mobile data, Wi-Fi, and location services (GPS). Many apps continue to run in the background, even when you’re not actively using them, syncing data, fetching notifications, or just staying ready to go. Social media apps and navigation tools are prime examples of apps that constantly drain energy, slowing down the charging process.
To make the process even faster, switch to airplane mode if you can do without communication for a while. Airplane mode, often associated with travel or times when you don’t want to be disturbed, disables all of your device’s wireless connections. These connections consume significant energy, even when your phone is idle. In airplane mode, your phone stops using mobile networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS, essentially putting it at rest, which allows the battery to charge more quickly. You’ll shave precious minutes off your charging time!
Finally, if you’re really in a rush and don’t need your phone right away, the best way to charge it quickly is to turn it off completely. By powering it down, you reduce its energy consumption to zero. This is by far the most efficient technique to rapidly recharge your smartphone.
One last tip to optimize charging: use a charger plugged directly into a wall socket. USB ports on computers, cars, or portable battery packs deliver much less power, which results in a slower charge.
