After nearly a year in beta, PS5 cloud streaming is officially expanding for all PlayStation Portal users. Starting today at 3 PM (Paris time), PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can stream their own PS5 games purchased digitally, straight from their game library — no console required.
Alongside this long-awaited upgrade, Sony is rolling out a revamped interface, 3D audio support, in-game purchases, and a handful of new accessibility and network features that make cloud gaming on the Portal feel far more complete.
Stream your personal PS5 library from the cloud
Until now, PS5 cloud streaming was restricted to a limited catalog of titles curated by Sony. That changes today. With this update, players can now stream any PS5 game they own digitally — meaning you can dive into your personal collection directly from Sony’s cloud servers.
This new system supports over 2,800 compatible PS5 titles, including major releases like:
- Astro Bot
- Borderlands 4
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Fortnite
- Ghost of Yōtei
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Resident Evil 4
Of course, the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog remain fully available as well, giving subscribers access to blockbuster hits like Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Sword of the Sea — all playable instantly in the cloud.
A redesigned interface built for easier navigation
To support this expanded streaming feature, Sony has redesigned the PlayStation Portal interface. The new home screen is now divided into three clear sections:
- Remote Play: Connect directly to your PS5 and play the games installed on your console (no PS Plus subscription required).
- Cloud Streaming: Access PS5 titles hosted on Sony’s servers — available exclusively to PS Plus Premium members.
- Search: Quickly find compatible games. If you don’t own a title, a QR code will appear, redirecting you to the PlayStation App or an external browser to purchase or download it.
This new layout helps separate local and cloud-based play, making it easier than ever to switch between different ways of gaming without digging through menus.
New features: 3D audio, password protection, network tools, and more
The update doesn’t just bring cloud streaming — it also enhances the overall experience on PlayStation Portal with several useful new features:
- 3D Audio Support: Enabled for both Remote Play and cloud streaming when using compatible headsets (including wired models and PlayStation Link devices such as Pulse Explore or Pulse Elite).
- Password Lock: Users can now secure their device via Settings > System > Password.
- Network Status Display: A quick-access menu lets you monitor your connection quality in real time (Quick Menu > Troubleshooting > Show Network Status).
- In-Game Store Access: Purchase DLC, in-game currency, and other digital content directly from within a session — no need to exit your game.
- Accessibility Enhancements: New tools like screen readers and text size adjustments are available under Settings > Cloud Streaming > Accessibility, depending on game support.
- Multiplayer Invitations: If a friend sends you an invite while streaming, you can now accept it instantly through the quick menu — no restart required.
Cloud gaming on PlayStation just got a serious upgrade
This update marks a turning point for the PlayStation Portal and Sony’s cloud gaming strategy. By finally allowing access to personal PS5 libraries and adding quality-of-life improvements like 3D audio and real-time network tools, Sony has transformed the Portal into more than just a Remote Play device — it’s becoming a true next-gen cloud console.
While it’s still limited to PS Plus Premium members, this expansion shows that Sony is doubling down on cloud gaming and streaming convenience. If the company continues at this pace, the Portal might soon rival the flexibility of other cloud-based gaming solutions — all within the PlayStation ecosystem.
